OpenAI recently launched a version of its ChatGPT app for the iPhone, however, Apple, the maker of the iPhone, has been revealed to have disabled ChatGPT in its workplace.

According to an internal Apple memo, the company asked employees not to use the AI platform at work. Apple is concerned that artificial intelligence like ChatGPT may collect confidential employee data.

And in addition to ChatGPT, Apple also banned employees from using GitHub's Copilot at work, which allows developers to automate code writing. Interestingly, both of these banned platforms are attributed to Microsoft.

Banning ChatGPT is just one aspect, and Apple clearly has its own big plans for AI. According to Apple's website, Apple currently has a total of 87 job openings related to artificial intelligence, with nearly a third (28) of them being added this month.

According to a report, Apple currently has 176 positions related to machine learning and artificial intelligence, with 68 positions belonging to the Siri department, 52 involved in iOS system development, and another 46 positions related to macOS.

Apple wants to develop natural language AI as well as generative AI models and make them available across platforms or in multiple forms, according to the report. Apple also said it will use the power of generative AI to redefine the iPhone and iPad.

According to the job posting, most of the AI talent hired will work at Apple's U.S. headquarters in Cupertino, California, with San Diego, Austin and other branches also absorbing some of the talent. Positions being hired include senior engineers, research scientists and special projects managers.

Apple's ambitions for AI have actually been in the works for a while. During Apple's recent earnings call, its spokesperson noted that Apple is thinking deeply about how to enter the field of artificial intelligence.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has also expressed concerns about Apple's progress in AI. He believes AI is very interesting, but at the same time there are many flaws that need to be addressed, so Apple must be cautious about the application of AI. However, he also said that Apple will provide more funds for the research and development of AI products.

In addition, Apple will hold a special event on June 5 about its virtual reality and augmented reality (VR/AR) products, when it may also provide more details about its AI plans.
