Targeting ChatGPT, Europe Approves First Artificial Intelligence Regulation
May 15, a committee of key European lawmakers recently approved the first artificial intelligence regulation. The regulation takes a risk-based approach to managing AI by imposing requirements on vendors of "base models" such as large language models and generative AI, including ChatGPT. Developers of base models are required to apply security checks, data governance measures, and risk mitigation measures before making their models publicly available, and to ensure that the training data used to inform their systems does not violate copyright laws.
