Internet of Things (IoT) and Intelligent Internet of Things (AIoT) are both commonly mentioned technical terms in the mouth, and each of them has unique characteristics and application scenarios. Before explaining the difference between the two, let's understand the concept of each of them.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of items that have unique identifiers and network interfaces that can communicate and exchange data with each other and other devices on the Internet. These items range from all kinds of sensors, flying machines, air conditioners, refrigerators, thermostats, etc. It can be said that any device that can be connected to the Internet can be used as an IoT node.

Intelligent Internet of Things (AIoT) is based on the Internet of Things, combined with artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies, making the devices and nodes in the Internet of Things have the ability to be intelligent. The AI capability of AIoT can calculate and judge various data resources to achieve intelligent control and decision recommendation.

Below, we will explain the difference between IoT and AIoT from the following aspects.

1. Different application scope

IoT is a broad concept, which can cover all aspects of people's production and life, such as smart home, smart city, smart medical, smart manufacturing and so on. And smart IoT focuses more on data processing and decision recommendation between sensors and devices to achieve more intelligent control and management.

2. Different thresholds

The application of IOT is relatively simple, only need to achieve the basic functions of data collection, data transmission and data analysis; while intelligent IOT needs to have the ability of AI, need to carry out deep learning, machine learning and other complex algorithm analysis, the implementation of the algorithm requires more talent, technology, computing resources and other inputs.

3. Different data processing methods

Data processing of IOT is generally simple data collection, transmission and storage for basic data analysis and decision recommendation; while IOT will conduct deeper mining and deep learning on the collected data, so that it can make more intelligent prediction and control.

4. Different application scenarios

The application scenarios of IOT are simple, mainly including machine monitoring, data collection, smart home, etc.; while the application scenarios of IOT are more complex, including industrial automation, artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, etc.

5. Different development trend

IOT is relatively mature, its application scenarios are gradually becoming common, and many standards and specifications have been produced. Smart IOT is more futuristic, and it tends to go deeper into AI field and promote the integration of AI technology and IOT.

Although IoT and Smart IoT are very similar in concept, their focus and direction are different. IoT mainly focuses on the interconnection between objects, while Smart IoT focuses more on using AI and other technologies to realize the intelligence of IoT, thus giving more intelligent control and management capabilities to devices and nodes. In the future development, Smart IOT will become an important development direction of IoT, bringing people a better living and working experience.
