According to the report, the U.S. Department of Commerce envisions that the NSTC will cover multiple new technology sites across the United States, working with academic and industry partners to drive product innovation and manpower development. The government plans to start operating the National Chip Technology Center by the end of 2023.

Key objectives of the National Chip Technology Center include producing the latest semiconductor technologies in the U.S., shortening the time from design to commercialization, and training technicians, engineers and other personnel; expanding U.S. leadership in semiconductor technology; and establishing and sustaining a semiconductor workforce development ecosystem.

The U.S. government's program will target the entire semiconductor ecosystem: foundries, chip research institutions, community colleges, state and local governments, national laboratories, integrated device manufacturers, equipment suppliers, material suppliers, investors and others.

Most importantly, said U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, the National Chip Technology Center will ensure that the United States is at the forefront of next-generation semiconductor technologies that can make significant new advances in areas that advance U.S. economic and national security.
