UK regulators to review technology behind software like ChatGPT
On May 3, UK time, the Financial Times reported that the UK competition regulator will launch a review of the artificial intelligence market, involving the technology behind tools such as ChatGPT.
Caddell, head of the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), said the agency will review "the underlying models" and "how the market has developed around those models. Caddell noted that the CMA will assess the real opportunities in this area, as well as what guardrails and principles should be in place to ensure that competition operates effectively and consumers are protected.
Caddell said the CMA's "fact-finding" on AI will involve stakeholders such as businesses and academia and is designed to gather rich and broad information. The review will not target any particular company.
